The End 01:48
This is the end of the line, we’re never coming back This is the part where we die, and everything turns black Now is the time we live forever, and nothing ever ends And just when we think that we’re finished, we’re back where we began The end, the end, the end is near The end, the end, the end is here It’s here again It’s here again The worms crawl in, the worms crawl out The worms play pinochle on your snout In the end, in the end This is the end of the line, we’re never coming back This is the part where we die, and everything turns black Now is the moment that’s before us And we’ve seen it all before The end ushers in the final chorus— there isn’t any more. The end, the end, the end is near The end, the end, the end is here It’s here again It’s here again The end The end The end The end

about

what’s it mean to have an alter-ego? i started performing as this chronically-late, sex & marijuana obsessed character at the palms open mic, kind of putting my shadow shamelessly on display, and ranting about code-enforcement in a blue wig and southern accent— i was way too afraid to perform as myself. i’ve always had stagefright, despite being a life-long performer, but here in this tiny desert town where i was the new girl, i was especially terrified. my girlfriend said, “she needs a name” and lolly goodwoman immediately popped into my mind (i imagine some women have this experience when naming their child). lolly continued to perform, mainly with a handful of other terrified (or at least confused) individuals, jimi wailing on his bass as lolly wailed at the state of her life and the state of the world. then my girlfriend said, “i think you’d like this instrument called an omnichord,” and one appeared at a yard sale for $25. then just as quickly, the romance ended and the world shut down, and i shut down too. shut myself in a hole 14’ underground- a dome-shaped bunker i perhaps made in some kind of psychic anticipation of the coming end of the world as we knew it. down there with my new twinkly instrument- an instrument designed to be so easy a child could play it- i started to sing. stagefright slowly began to transform down there— like the sphinx moths that make their cocoons beneath the earth, then rise when the weather is right. eventually the band was assembled with a technique i’d perfected as a kid— i dressed up whoever was around and pushed them onstage. then they started dressing themselves up and leaping onto the stage! a big thank you from the bottom of my heart to everyone who has ever played with this band. you have made stagefright the chaos demon baby that i love so dearly. i hope we can keep making shows and music we love.
